Welcome to Lambeth Floating Marsh – an arts/science collaboration

Lambeth Floating Marsh Animation Loop from Loraine Leeson on Vimeo with Visual effects by Sean Lewis.

The microorganisms that you see on this website are all to be found in the inner city stretch of the tidal Thames at the site of the historic Lambeth Marshes.

They struggle to survive in an inhospitable environment with changing composition of fresh and saltwater and high flood defense walls that provide scarce habitat. These microscopic creatures are nevertheless key to the survival of the invertebrates, fish and birds that might otherwise flourish along this river.

This project has set out to enable reeds to grow around a moored barge to explore and expand the potential for using moving structures to support the proliferation of microorganisms and invertebrates in an otherwise inhospitable urban river environment.
